I am a qualified maths teacher and I currently teach maths with additional responsibilities for intervention across the department. I have on many occasions tutored people successfully and I have gained exceptional reviews teaching my specialist subject. I look forward to using my knowledge to help you address misunderstandings, plug knowledge gaps and help you to achieve your targets. By working with you, listening to what you already know and setting appropriately challenging tasks I can help you fulfill your mathematical potential as I have with other people. I am very confident you will find my approach highly effective. I have a car so I can travel if reasonable. Alternatively I could tutor from home if needs be.

Tutoring experience

I have been a maths learning mentor for a year, tutor and maths teacher. I currently teach maths at a secondary school at Key stage 3 and 4 including GCSE and intervention. I have tutored people on and off since 2014 at GCSE and A-level with positive feedback for both.

Having gained the best grades I could get at the time at GCSE, A-level and University I am able to diagnose and address misconceptions in maths quickly. This helps me to teach well and has contributed to getting extra teaching responsibilities for intervention in my second year of teaching. In this role I find and implement teaching strategies that will help students succeed where previously they had not. It is important to realise where errors are likely to occur and address them appropriately - something my students regularly comment on is that I have the knowledge and experience to do. I currently have availability on weekday evenings and weekends.

Approach to tutoring

It is important to master topics one at a time. I like students to go over each topic in sufficient detail, covering many possible variations before moving on to make sure your knowledge is secure. If the sessions are in the run up to exams working through past papers works well, as it tackles issues in exam style whilst refreshing the students knowledge of the material. Exam questions are also important for ensuring students work at the expected level. If the sessions are for general support I would prefer to introduce the topic giving some general information about it before working through examples of increasing difficulty.
