Ms Carin Abramovitz
I am a qualified mathematician with more than 10 years’ experience as a maths teacher, both in the classroom and with private pupils.
Tutoring experience
Holding a BSc in Pure Mathematics and a post-graduate Higher Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Town, I began my career teaching in Cape Town at secondary schools and colleges while also tutoring privately, most recently tutoring 11+ pupils to St Paul’s, Godolphin & Latymer and Latymer Upper schools.
With the birth of my children my focus turned to the editing of maths textbooks, including a series for IGCSE mathematics. In 2001 I completed a diploma in Architectural technology at the Cape Town Technikon before registering as a Professional Architectural Technologist in 2004. My maths, logic and problem solving skills have been honed over the course of a varied career as a teacher, architect and a site manager in the construction industry. Drawing on this experience, I bring a wealth of applied and theoretical knowledge to my maths lessons.
Approach to tutoring
I develop a relationship with my pupils, finding out where there are gaps in their understanding and building confidence in their abilities to understand and apply this understanding to solve more complex problems. Lessons are bespoke, individual and tailored specifically to each individual.
