Mr Richard Ross
I believe it is more important than ever to get a decent education. I have been privileged to have received a first class education at every level and I feel it is my duty (as well as my pleasure) to pass on that education to others.
I am passionate about art, literature and astronomy. I am friendly-but-firm, enthusiastic and ambitious for my students - however I am also patient, compassionate and pride myself on being able to find the best ways to engage pupils.
Tutoring experience
I have been teaching in schools for a year and a half now although I have been training young people for over 10 years.
I am currently the EAL coordinator at Salford City Academy. I have worked in Manchester Grammar and have a good knowledge of the independent and grammar school system.
I recently received an 'outstanding' in an evaluation for my adult art class.
Approach to tutoring
All education needs to build upon a solid foundation. To this end I would ensure that students are proficient in basic skills before moving onto more advanced 'critical thinking' techniques. To do this I use a variety of strategies from visual aids to practise papers - tailoring the approach to the student's needs. I would expect a degree of discipline from my students to further their studies by completing any homework or assignments I give them.
For more advanced students I encourage independent learning supported through a convenor style tutoring. The delivery of skills would continue but there would be a greater emphasis on experimentation and exploration.
